Types of DSL Internet Connections

DSL Internet

There are many types of DSL Internet connections available in most zip codes. ADSL, ADSL 2+ VDSL, SDSL, SHDSL and HDSL among others.

DSL Internet came about when telephone companies found out they could offer Internet over telephone lines, the very same copper phone lines they already had coming in to most of the houses in America. This made DSL Internet connection availble to most of America.

The two major "types" of DSL Internet are ADSL and SDSL. Originally most DSL was ADSL, which means a Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. This means that the signal is more going down than up. This is useable since most Internet use, especially in the past, was downloading things from the world wide web. This is still the type of DSL available to most people.

Now SDSL, or Symmetric DSL is becoming popular. SDSL means upload speed is equal to download speed. This is needed now because people are uploading a lot more than they used to and playing inline games. People are uploading video and other files much more now.

It is important to find DSL Internet in your zipcode. That way you know what options are available to you.
